Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy Services
The therapy team at CFO works directly with your physician to develop a plan of care that is designed to meet your individual goals and to coordinate ongoing treatment. As an integral component of your orthopedic health care team, we are able to directly improve patient outcomes. When physical therapy is provided on-site, it allows us to share ideas, exchange information, and modify therapeutic protocols with your physician in a timely manner. Frequent and timely feedback between your therapist and your physician is crucial for getting you back to optimal heath, allowing you to resume your fully active life more quickly.
Our rehabilitation philosophy
The experienced therapists at the Center for Orthopaedics, P.C. (CFO) create personalized treatment and exercise programs for each patient with an emphasis on hands-on, individualized care. Patients receive specialized programs which are designed to meet their unique needs and achieve their specific goals. Additionally, each patient's care plan is designed to provide a smooth transition to effective self-management. Research has proven that this type of therapy, which fosters patient independence and autonomy, is most effective for long-term patient success.
CFO therapists work very closely with the medical team, striving together to achieve optimal treatment success.
Therapy staff
All of our Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists are licensed in the State of Connecticut, and satisfy the requirements of their respective Associations for professional practice. The therapists at CFO all remain abreast of current trends and are the hallmark of our thriving practice that, we believe, results in the highest level of patient satisfaction. Courses recently attended by some of our staff include: "Shoulder and Elbow Update" presented by the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and "Strength Training For Seniors" presented by the International Weightlifting Association.
In providing specialized care, we also have Occupational Therapists certified in complex rehabilitation of the hand and distal upper extremity (Certified Hand Therapists).
To ensure prompt and appropriate care, and in order to be referred to our rehabilitation centers, a CFO physician must first evaluate you.
What should I expect on my first visit?
On your first visit, your therapist will perform an evaluation to determine how we can help you. The evaluation involves a thorough history, tests and measures that allow the therapist to get a more specific understanding of your condition. Your therapist will make a clinical judgement as to your diagnosis and prognosis. A treatment program will be developed aimed at resolving the problems identified which will enable you to attain the goals set by you and your therapist.
How long will my visit last?
Visit time will vary according to what the therapist finds in the evaluation. There is no specific time limit for therapy. Whatever is found to be appropriate during the evaluation will become part of the patient's or client's program. Your program will be appropriately updated. As a rule of thumb, anticipate being with us for at least 60 minutes for your first visit.
